SINGLES CRUISES TODAY
The spirit of the seas calls many people for many different reasons, as
does taking a cruise. The modern cruise vacation caters to both
families and singles. The invent of the modern day cruise ship
allows for single passengers to sail anywhere on any ship and have a
good or great time.
The single cruiser as a market is increasing each year as cruise ships
and cruise lines accommodate their needs and wants. Some singles
want to meet other single passengers and then others just want to have a
quite, peaceful voyage and time to themselves. Whatever the reason
the Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA), that represents 24
cruise lines in the North American market, reports that as many as 15
percent more singles sailed in 2003 than in 2002.

Some of the high-end premium and upscale luxury lines will offer
cocktail parties or receptions for the single passengers to meet other
other solo
passengers and some ships offer onboard "gentlemen" dance hosts.
They are available for dancing the night away when the band starts up.
Single functions are usually held very early in the cruise onboard ships of:
Depending on the cruise lines and cruise ships, will
depend on how the single passenger is treated. Some ships give
discounts from the double rate and now charge less for a single
passenger. Some ships now have been designed and built with cabins
that cater to the single passenger.
As the ships get bigger and bigger, the growth in the single
passenger market will be sure to increase. The single passenger
can usually find other passenger's onboard with the same interests and
the dining room manager will normally seat single passengers with other
singles at diner if you request.
Tips for singles
cruiser passengers:
Take you time and find the right ship for your
needs, desires and price range. Look around and get the itinerary
you desire, then shop the ship categories for the best single supplement
price for your cruise. Some cruise lines will have specials for singles
and charge 125% more and some will charge up to 200% more for the single
supplement.
Let your cruise professional or cruise agent know that you are
looking to travel alone and want the agent to be on the lookout for
"single" deals and single specials. The cruise lines will either
fax or email specials to your cruise professional and they in turn and
get with you ASAP to find you the best sailings.
Another option for some singles is to see if the cruise line will
match you up with a cabin mate. Some will, some won't. If
you can stand sharing a stateroom with a total stranger, you might just
have a great time and a very reduced rate.
Single cruises are a
different type of event and we do not deal with them on this site.
They are for individuals who want to only meet and be around other
singles from start to finish. We try to provide information for
all cruise travelers.
Try to get involved on the cruise ship as
quick as possible. Take a shore excursion or go to the first meet
and greet for singles onboard. Some cruise lines will cater to the
single passenger and make them feel right at home. Ask you cruise
agent which cruise lines and ships are the best for you.
Making
friends with the ship cruise director and other crew and staff will help
you feel like you fit in immediately. Always request to be seated
with other singles and try the late dining when less families will be
dining.
Remember, I like the idea of taking a shore excursion the
first day possible to meet up with other passengers. You will meet
not only other singles, but other couples or families that will combine
to give you a feeling of knowing other passengers, even if they are not
single.
I do not recommend the clubs or discos as a meaningful
way of meeting other singles. Some do, I don't. If you want
to dance and have fun, take in the late night clubs. It is my
opinion that I like to set up a time with other friends when I will meet
them in the club for drinks and dancing.
